Calendar of Activities in San Miguel de Allende
March
Celebration of the Lord of the Conquest, on the first Friday of this month, all day long in the atrium of the Parroquia and in the explanade of the main square. The Indian dances, known as “concheras”, pay homage to St. Christ of the Conquest.
Celebrations before and during Easter week, visit of the Lord of the Column. Beautiful altars are displayed during Friday of Sorrows in the portals and interiors of homes.
On the 17th, the Irish community celebrates St. Patrick’s Day.
May
Celebration of the “Holy Crosses”; different pre-Hispanic rituals.
June
The traditional “Locos Parade”, on St. Anthony’s Feast, (13th or the following Sunday).
July
San Miguel de Allende is very crowded in the summer because it is visited by many tourists from all over the world.
August
The Chamber Music Festival takes place during the first two weeks of this month, hosting many international artists.
September
Celebrations for Independence month, beginning with the regional feasts.
Celebrating the city’s foundation, in honor of St. Michael Archangel, patron saint of the city (3rd Saturday).
October
The regional feasts end (the closest Saturday to September 29th). The “Alborada” takes place at dawn, then people sing the traditional “mañanitas” to St. Michael Archangel, patron saint of the city. People continue with religious and pagan celebrations all night long around the main square, with typical music, fireworks, bullfights, charreadas (Mexican style rodeo) and musical groups during Saturday and Sunday.
November
On the 2nd, “Day of the Dead”.
On the second week, the “Wool and Brass” fair.
During the last week of the month, the International Jazz Festival.
December
Traditional “posadas” are organized in the city’s main streets and neighborhoods. Different groups interested in keeping the traditions alive perform in the “pastorelas” (small theater plays).
